DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1 -- Depart the United States. Depart your hometown and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service as you travel to start your vacation.
DAY 2 -- ARRIVE IN Shannon Ireland. After customs and immigration formalities at Shannon Airport, your CIE Tours driver/guide will welcome you to Ireland. Next, drive along the scenic coast of County Clare to visit the Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s most beloved, natural landmarks. See magical vistas, overlooking the shimmering Atlantic Ocean along with Ireland’s Western coastline. Continue on to visit St. Tola Farm, one of the many stops on the Burren Food Trail and a producer of handmade goat cheese. St. Tola’s award-winning cheeses are sure to please even the most discerning palate. Enjoy a chance to sample the cheeses yourself before taking a short ferry ride across the River Shannon Estuary. Then head to Tralee, where you will check into your luxurious castle hotel for dinner and your overnight stay.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: BALLYSEEDE CASTLE HOTEL, TRALEE
DAY 3 -- Dingle Peninsula Drive. Today, discover the beauties of the Dingle Peninsula, once described by the National Geographic Traveler as “the most beautiful place on earth.” Drive along the south shore of the peninsula for plenty of vistas of heathery mountains, sandy stretches of beach, stunning green landscapes and rocky headlands. Pause at strategic locations to admire the views and take photos. Head to the village of Annascaul and stop at the South Pole Inn. While here, learn about the Antarctic explorer, Tom Crean and have an Irish coffee with your group. Return to your hotel, where you can relax or freshen up before dinner at a restaurant in Killarney.
DINNER IN KILLARNEY & OVERNIGHT: BALLYSEEDE CASTLE HOTEL, TRALEE
DAY 4 -- Blarney Castle. Today, enjoy whiskey and chocolate tasting at Celtic Bar. Then journey through the rugged countryside to Blarney, where you can climb the battlements of Blarney Castle and kiss the famous "Stone of Eloquence." Afterwards, travel to the bustling city of Dublin and check into your hotel. If time permits, explore some of Dublin on your own before tonight’s festivities.
OVERNIGHT: RADISSON BLU ROYAL HOTEL, DUBLIN
DAY 5 -- Dublin Highlights. Set off with a local guide who will show you around Dublin. The city has been molded through the centuries with many architectural styles, reflecting the economic, political and artistic influences. Tour Guinness Storehouse to see exhibits on how this world famous stout was first created and why it is so popular today. Finish your visit in the roof-top bar, where you can sample a draft of Guinness. Next, visit St Michan's Church which was founded in 1095. A few of the highlight of the church include an oran dating from 1724 and it's original wooden gallery. We will also be guide through the underground vaults and possibly see mummified bodies in open coffins. After your visit, you are free for individual pursuits and dining.
OVERNIGHT: RADISSON BLU ROYAL HOTEL, DUBLIN
DAY 6 - Edinburgh Castle. This morning, transfer to the Airport to check in for your flight (This is included in the pricing). After landing at Edinburgh Airport, your CIE Tours guide will welcome you to Scotland and escort you and your luggage to the coach. Next, set off on a guided tour of Edinburgh to see some of the city’s magnificent highlights. During your tour, you will travel through the Old Town and of course along the Royal Mile. If time permits, you will also see the Palace of Holyroodhouse, St. Giles Cathedral and even the National Museum of Scotland. Stop for a guided tour of the imposing Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city on volcanic rock. Then visit to a fudge kitchen for a tasting before checking into your nearby hotel. You may wish to relax or freshen up before dinner with your group.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: APEX GRASSMARKET HOTEL, EDINBURGH
DAY 7 - Stirling Castle. Today, drive to the historic town of Stirling and visit Stirling Castle. Captured from the English in 1297 by William Wallace and again in 1314 by Robert the Bruce, Stirling Castle has been featured largely throughout Scottish history. Next, stop at a nearby venue for a delightful cup of afternoon tea along with a fine assortment of pastries to snack on. Return to Edinburgh for a free evening.
OVERNIGHT: APEX GRASSMARKET HOTEL, EDINBURGH
DAY 8 -- Edinburgh At Leisure. Spend much of the day free to explore Edinburgh as we board the Hop on Hop off open-top double-decker bus. This will give you all the benefits of a guided tour - including transportation to several different sight and also enjoy onboard audio commentary about Scottish History, Monuments and locations. This is all done at your pace/leisure. If you wish to spend time at a stop, simply step off the bus and get on the next one when you are ready to leave or you may walk to the next or previous stop and get back on. Some of the attractions are: Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile (shopping district), Holyrood Palace, Royal Yacht Britannia and Arthur's Seat. The entire route from start to finish is one hour if you didn't depart the bus with 14 stops along the way.
FAREWELL DINNER & OVERNIGHT: APEX GRASSMARKET HOTEL, EDINBURGH
DAY 9 - Depart to the United States. Transfer to Edinburgh Airport in good time to check in for your flight. You may do some last minute shopping at the duty free stores before boarding your aircraft and flying across the Atlantic Ocean back to the United States.
Or if you are joining us for the Post Tour of the Scottish Highlands,
we will gather at a predetermined time and location and depart from the hotel.
